Exclusive Drill From Coach Lisle’s Hitting Vault
When I have a hitter that struggles with the load, I sometimes use the Knob to Knee Drill. Some hitters struggle with having athleticism and rhythm in their swing and have really tight restrictive movements. In this drill we want the hitter to over-exaggerate the feel of the leg kick and bat tip. By doing this drill hitters will eventually start loosening up their body movements and find a happy medium in their load.
Some hitters will make the mistake of only doing one of the two movements. For example, they will lift their knee to their back hip and not tip the knob down or vice versa.

When coaching this drill, make sure they do it with balance. You should see the front knee and knob get close to touching (but not). The hitter will probably feel like it’s “too much” but after a few reps will see how much more power they have when they do this. And then can “dial it back” to a good place for their load.
